Astron Prices Remain Low, Service
and Quality High
|
While prices for many products and services
continue to sky rocket, Astron is proud to have a 0%
price increase for the past five years.
With the
current climate of escalating prices, especially through
out the last two years, it's important to Astron to keep
a firm grip on pricing.
We understand that cost
is a main concern in choosing antenna or systems
solutions, as is the strain from other industries
increasing their prices considerably. At Astron, prices
reflect our desire to help our customers.
While
prices may have remained the same, our value hasn't
diminished. In fact, we now offer more than ever with
our value-added milieu and dedication to customer
satisfaction.

HESA™ II Technology Platform:
Operating Frequency Range Increased to
18GHz
|
Astron's HESA™ II Technology Platform now has the
capability to operate in a broader frequency range, from
2 MHz to 18 GHz for most applications. However, the
HESA™ II Platform is frequency agile and can be modified
to provide various select frequency bands within the 2
MHz to 18 GHz operating range. The HESA™ DF
Platform provides a flexible platform for configuring
multiple antenna elements in a small form factor. Most
surveillance applications typically require highly
sensitive signal capture requirements utilizing multiple
frequencies. By networking various elements and their
associated electronics such as amplifiers, multiple
frequencies can be co-located, therefore requiring less
space. The Astron HESA™ technology
provides an environment that optimizes antenna and
system efficiency, leading to greater signal capture and
reduced error rates. As result of HESA™, additional
frequencies can be added to achieve more target
bandwidth while maintaining accuracy in a miniaturized
form factor. Several miniaturized DF
antenna systems utilizing the HESA™ DF Platform have
been developed by Astron. Systems have been developed
for submarine, shipboard, airborne and land based
applications. Inherent in the HESA™ DF Platform is the
ability to provide a customized DF antenna according to
customer requirements and applications.

IBT Helps Large Baker Find
Solutions
|
A company in Baltimore, Md., currently bakes
approximately 60% of McDonald's bread products to
include regular hamburger buns to muffins. The firm
called upon IBT to identify ways to help get the right
product to the right store on time. IBT
assembled a team to study the problem. Using automated
print and apply technology in conjunction with Radio
Frequency Identification (RFID) labels, IBT proposed to
tamp an RFID label onto each stack to make sure the
distribution to each store goes smoothly.

Bringing Effective Tracking, Cost
Reduction, to Paper Mill
|
A large paper mill recently decided that in order
to track product more effectively, staff not only needed
to validate each movement in their warehouses but also
on the yards and zone areas.
IBT was
brought in to access the application and find the
optimal solution. Upon doing a site survey it was
determined that pickers always used a fork lift and scan
distance was anywhere between 20-32 feet. IBT also
determined that in certain areas a clothesline (a thin
cable mounted from point to point) over a zone pick area
could be mounted to hang location placards.
A
spec for a 28 mil plastic placard using 80 mil
retroreflective stock was established. To minimize cost
the mil spec was decreased from 100 mil, but with scan
distance needed would be sufficient. To save
further cost, a 3 mil polyester would be used for the
human readable. Typically, polyester is 3 times less
expensive than retro reflective stock.
In
order to achieve maximum scannability, a lip was formed
on the placard so they would hang at exactly a 22 degree
angle, the optimal scannability for this
application. Testing was done and an order was
secured for over 3000 locations.
With IBT's
solution, the customer can now track their supply chain
operations throughout the company, therefore better
controlling inventory.

New RFID Reader Patch
Antenna
|
Adding to its extensive line of custom antennas, Astron
Wireless Technologies now offers a RFID Reader Patch
antenna.
The H91CDPSFPM is available in the
902-928 MHz frequency range. Electrically, it has a
power handling capability of 30 watts. Its polarization
is left or right hand circular, helping to minimize
attenuation caused by cross polarization. The VSWR is
1.5:1. Mechanically, the antenna measures 6 7/8 x 6 7/8
x 2 ¼ inches.
This low profile, unique antenna
has a squared beam to help isolate signal to a confined
area, thus reducing crossover signal
capture.
